A tradition of giving
For thirty-eight years, the Legacy Fund has helped Charleston families turn private generosity into lasting public good.

Our heritage
In 1988, seven families gathered around a dining table on Tradd Street and each pledged $10,000 to establish a permanent fund for the Lowcountry. They did not want a monument. They wanted something that would quietly do good.
We have honored that spirit ever since. The Legacy Fund remains independent, locally governed and led by volunteers who give their expertise as freely as their gifts.
Today, more than two hundred families, businesses and estates have entrusted us with their philanthropy. We steward their wishes with care, and we report back with candor.
