Your first Sunday
We're a small church, so you will probably be noticed. You won't be made to stand up, fill in a card or say anything at all.

Before you come
If we've missed something, call the office and Lois will tell you, probably at some length.

Arrival
Use the double doors facing the parking lot. Someone at the welcome table will hand you a hymnal and a bulletin.
Parking
The lot on the north side has forty spaces. Overflow parks along South 15th Street.

Children
Children stay in worship until the children's story, then go to class with Hien and Joan. A nursery is open from 9:15 for under-threes.
Length
Worship runs about an hour. The sharing time can stretch it to seventy minutes.
Dress
What you'd wear to the library. Some farmers come straight from chores.
Access
Level entry from the lot, a hearing loop in the sanctuary, and large-print hymnals and bulletins at the welcome table.
A Sunday morning at Clearwater
The coffee is strong and the cookies are homemade.
Eight classes. Visitors usually drop in on the Open Door class in Room 4.
A gathering hymn, a call to worship read by a member, and more singing.
One reading, twenty minutes of preaching, then a response hymn.
People stand and share news. Then a prayer, a last hymn and the benediction.
More questions
Yes, if you follow Jesus. We share bread and grape juice on the first Sunday of the month, passed down the pews. It is fine to pass the plate along.
Singing without instruments is an old Mennonite habit. We keep it because everyone has to sing for it to work. There is a piano in the fellowship hall for the children's program.
No. About a quarter of the people on a Sunday grew up in some other church or none. Membership is a separate conversation, whenever you want to have it.
What other churches call a potluck. First Sunday of the month, after worship. Come even if you didn't bring anything; there is always more than enough.
Youth meet on Sunday evenings at six. They also run the coffee table in the morning, so you'll meet them early.
Finding us
Design notes
A site for a small Anabaptist congregation whose life is as much Saturday work crews and the Mutual Aid fund as Sunday morning. It is calm, practical and a little dry, the way the congregation talks, and it gives the weekday work equal billing with worship.
Bitter is a slab serif drawn for reading on screens, and it has the square, unfussy shoulders of the type on seed catalogues and church-press hymnal spines. Public Sans does the body copy: a neutral, civic face with nothing to prove. There is deliberately no third typeface. This congregation would notice the extra one and ask what it cost.
The blue is the indigo of a work shirt washed a hundred times, and the ochre is dry straw in an Elkhart County field in August. The background is a pale sage linen rather than white, with a faint grain so the pages feel like paper. Dark mode moves to a night-field blue with the ochre warmed to lamplight.
The sidebar keeps every page, the address and the Sunday times visible on desktop at all times, which suits an older congregation that dislikes hunting through menus. Six pages, each named for what it is: Your first Sunday, Mutual Aid, Work days, What we believe.
A tall photograph of a carry-in table sits beside three plain next-step rows with times: Sunday school, worship, Wednesday soup. That is how people actually join this church, one meal or class at a time, so the site offers three small doors instead of one grand promise.
Sing with us Sunday, Sign up for a work day, Ask the Mutual Aid fund, Pack a school kit. Each one is a concrete thing someone can do this week, and the nav button invites people to the singing because four-part a cappella hymns are what visitors remember.
Casseroles, garden beds, timber frames, hymnals and older hands. Faces appear where they belong, at tables and on work sites, never staring into the lens. Nothing staged, nothing glossy, and no photographs of Amish buggies: Clearwater gets asked that question every week and the site answers it in words instead.
Body text is 17.5px on a 66-character measure. Square buttons have clear outlines and labels that make sense out of context, and every color pair passes WCAG AA in both themes. The first-visit page says plainly where the level entrance, large-print hymnals and hearing loop are.
Every text pairing is checked against WCAG 2.2 in both themes.
