Nonprofit Foster Care Support Website Template
Porchlight Foster Network
Porchlight's visitors arrive in three very different states: a foster parent who got a call at 9 PM, someone wondering whether they could ever foster, and a neighbor who wants to help. The site gives each of them a door on the first screen and keeps the urgent one, the placement bag, one tap away everywhere.

- Built for
- Licensed foster parents, kinship caregivers (often grandparents), caseworkers, and neighbors in Wyandotte County who want to help.
- Navigation
- Left sidebar. A fixed column holds the name, every page and the address, so nothing is ever more than one click away on desktop.
Names, photos, times and stories in this template are sample content. Your version uses your own words, photos and branding.

Why it looks this way.
- Typography
Headlines are Onest, a soft grotesque with open, rounded letters that feel kind without becoming childish. Body text is Literata, a serif made for reading on screens, so the longer pages read like a letter from someone who has done this before. The pairing keeps the tone warm for tired people reading on a phone late at night.
- Onest headlines
- Literata body text
- Color
The palette is a porch at dusk: a front-door indigo as the brand and the amber of a bulb left on as the accent. In the dark theme the two swap roles, so the amber becomes the main color and the page reads like a porch light at night. Neutrals lean slightly blue to keep the light theme cool and calm.

- Layout
A fixed left sidebar holds every page, the placement-bag button and the address, so a foster parent mid-crisis never has to hunt for the menu. Page names are the things people actually say: New placement, The Closet, Respite nights. On phones the sidebar folds into a simple top bar.
Pages: Start here, New placement, The Closet, Respite nights, Thinking of fostering, Wrap a family, Who we are
- Hero
The home page opens with three doors: I'm fostering or caring for family, I'm thinking about fostering, and I want to help. Each audience needs something different first, and a single headline would have served only one of them.
- Calls to action
The main action is Request a placement bag, because the hours after a new placement are when families most need help and least have time to look for it. Other actions say exactly what you get: Book a respite night, Come to an info night, Join a wrap team.
- Photography
Photos show ordinary home moments between adults and children: shoulder rides, drawing, holding hands. We avoided sad-child imagery and anything that could identify a child in care; in a real build, photos of children in care should always be staged with models or shot from behind.
- Accessibility
Body text is 18px with generous line height, and every text pairing passes WCAG AA in both themes. Forms ask only what is needed, mark optional fields in words, and the placement form works with autofill so it can be done one-handed holding a toddler.
